Supporting the Lumio touch hardware

Last updated: 30th April 2015

UPDD supports certain models of the Lumio touch hardware, which is known as the Crystal Touch range. UPDD drivers are available for all OS supported by the UPDD driver.

In March 2015 we were informed that the available Lumio touch hardware was as follows:

USB PID

Legacy Setting

Identification

Interfaces Included

0x0006

Legacy

Mouse or Digitizer

Setup, Mouse, Keyboard, Touchpad, and Digitizer

0x0010

Non-Legacy

Mouse

Setup, Keyboard, Mouse

0x0020

Non-Legacy

Digitizer

Setup, Digitizer

0x0030

Non-Legacy

Relative co-ordinates

Setup, Keyboard, Touchpad

The above devices are compatible with Win 7/8/10 HID multi-touch driver and are therefore PnP in these OS but for other OS they operate in single point mouse mode.  We believe the modes can be set using the Crystal Touch Manager available from Lumio.

We also support an earlier dual touch controller with USB Product ID 0007.

The Lumio USB Vendor id is 202E.  Vendor and Product id’s can be viewed on a system as per these examples:

Windows: http://ww5.touch-base.com/documentation/Identifying%20Touch%20Screen%20controllers.htm#_Windows

Mac OS X: http://ww5.touch-base.com/documentation/Identifying%20Touch%20Screen%20controllers.htm#_Mac_OS_X

Linux: http://ww5.touch-base.com/documentation/Identifying%20Touch%20Screen%20controllers.htm#_Linux

Examples:

Vendor (202e) and product id (0020) listing from a German Mac system also showing firmware version (02.04.51.01):

Vendor (202e) and product id (0006) listing from an Italian Mac system also showing firmware version (02.04.22.01):

UPDD is expecting those devices capable of digitizer (multi-touch) mode to be in the digitizer mode in all OS, not just Windows, as this allows the UPDD multi-touch features and gestures to work in all OS.

In this example the device is capable of multi-touch and is set to Windows 7, 4 touch mode to work with UPDD on a Mac system.

It is possible that a future release of the driver will automatically set the device in digitizer mode but for the time being this must be set manually using the Windows Crystal Touch Manager if not already in this mode of operation.

Firmware function specification

This data shows the relationship between the firmware release and the touch data structure and functionality:

Firmware Revision

Frame Format

Frame Size

Comments

2.4.22.x and up

(4 * TouchPacket) + NumTouches

25

May transmit up to 2 frames yielding up to 8 touches

2.4.51.x and up

(4 * TouchPacket) + Windows 8 Scan Time + NumTouches

27

May transmit up to 2 frames yielding up to 8 touches

1.5.x.x and up

(4 * TouchPacket) + Windows 8 Scan Time + NumTouches

27

May transmit a single frame yielding up to 4 touches

3.1.x.x and up

(5 * TouchPacket) + Windows 8 Scan Time + NumTouches

33

May transmit up to 2 frames yielding up to 10 touches

The firmware release can be viewed in the Crystal Touch Manager for End Users and Technicians:

UPDD is configured to interpret the incoming data stream so it is important that the data format matches that as expected.  Unfortunately the data format is different with different versions of the firmware but the controller’s USB PID remains the same so that we now have different drivers to cater for the different firmware versions.

You can request a Lumio trial driver from our download page for various operating systems, selecting the appropriate touch device as follows:

Old Lumio dual touch device, PID 7,  select the ‘Lumio, Dual, USB’  controller

For firmware 2.4.22.x and up multi-touch device, PID 6 and 20, select the ‘Lumio, Crystal Touch, USB’ controller

For firmware 2.04.51.x / 1.5.x.x and up multi-touch device, PID 6 and 20, select the ‘Lumio, Crystal Touch (W8TS), USB’ controller

For firmware 3.1.x.x and up multi-touch device, PID 6 and 20, select the ‘Lumio, CrystalTouch (10T), USB’ controller

Important note: When using UPDD ensure any other drivers loaded to support the device are uninstalled.  Under Mac you must ensure all instances of the Mac Crystal Touch Manager are uninstalled.

We will configure the PID 10 mouse device as and when required.
